Handshake Virtual Event Resources for Students

Tips for Success

  • Remember that professional business attire is highly encouraged for all virtual fair events.
  • Remember to arrive on time and register ahead for employer 1:1 sessions and group sessions ahead of time.
  • Remember that you should be on camera at all times while engaged with an employer.
  • Remember to update your Handshake profile (as close to 100% as possible) in preparation for virtual fair events.
  • Make sure to upload your most recently reviewed and career advisor-approved resume to your Handshake profile.
  • Remember to set your “Settings and Privacy” in Handshake to “Community” to enable employers to review your profile and resume before your session.
  • Remember to check out the registered companies before the event.
  • Frequently check out employer appointment availability. Employers will be making regular updates to available 1:1 and group sessions. Sign up ahead of time to secure your schedule.
  • If you need any support in preparation for a networking event (resume review, LinkedIn profile, interview skills, Handshake profile completion), please make an appointment with a Career Consultant via Handshake or by emailing
  • If utilizing a mobile device, students should download and use the Handshake app to attend the virtual fair.

  • Want to share your resume info with an employer? Consider sharing a link to your updated LinkedIn profile.

Handshake Virtual Event Resources for Employers

Helpful Employer Event Details:

  • Once registered and paid, please have your representative (s) set up your sessions as soon as possible.
  • During registration, you will be asked to share the number of representatives who plan to attend the fair—up to 15 representatives per employer! Each representative registered will be able to create their own unique schedule to engage with students during CNN.
  • You will be able to use video, audio, and chat communication with students through group meetings (up to 3 per event/ 50 student limit/30 minutes each) and 1:1 student meetings (10 minutes each), scheduled in advance or after a group session per register representative.
  • (CNN only) Each company is expected to host at least twelve 1:1 sessions and at least one group session available for the CNN event. However, companies are welcome to do as many 1:1 sessions per representative as time allows and up to 3 group sessions during the CNN event.
  • (CNN only) Employers with less than 5k employees are encouraged to schedule your info session(s) between 4:30- 6 pm.
  • (CNN only) Employers with more than 5k employees are encouraged to schedule your info session(s) between 6-7:30 pm.

  • Please view the webinar and articles below for more information on Handshake features.
  • Employers are encouraged to avoid setting up sorting limits (for example, “just juniors”) for 1:1 and group events to ensure a large majority of attending students are able to connect with event representatives.
  • Encourage students to enter group session muted and with their cameras/microphones off to reduce disruptions during presentations.
