How to become a Carson Coug

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS WITH TRANSFER CREDITS

Admission into WSU and the Carson College of Business is a two-step process:

  1. Apply for Admission to WSU:
  2. Apply for Admission into the Carson College of Business:
    • For students entering WSU in fall 2020, based on your transfer courses, you may be eligible to apply for admission into the Carson College of Business when you first enroll at WSU. If you transfer to WSU all of the following requirements, you are eligible to apply for admission into the Carson College of Business *
      • At least 30 semester credits with a GPA of 2.50 or higher
      • Math 106, 171, 201, 202, or equivalent (with grade of C or higher)
      • ECONS 101 or 102 (with grade of C or higher)
    • If you don’t have all of the requirements listed above at the time of transfer, don’t worry! You can apply for admission into the Carson College at a later date.

* Starting in fall 2020, if you are admitted into the Carson College of Business when you first enroll at WSU, your degree requirements will following our new business requirements; however, they will be slightly modified as follows: 

  • Your Carson Career Amplifier Program (CCAP) will be abbreviated; the Crimson Pathway.
  • You will be exempt from taking BA 100, BA 102, and HBM 101 (except for HBM majors)

**Students who transfer to WSU prior to fall 2020, will follow the curriculum requirements in place at the time of admission. Your academic advisor will evaluate your transfer work and let you know if the new business curriculum would be in your best interest. You have the choice to select either the requirements at the time of your admission OR the new curriculum requirement. However, the modifications listed in #2 above do not apply to you.

Activities You Should Do Prior to Transferring to WSU

A Carson College of Business degree involves more than just taking classes. A Carson College degree also focuses on professional development, networking, career exploration, and developing skills/experiences that will set you apart from the rest of the competition. Before you transfer to WSU, here are a few things you can do to prepare:

  • Become an active member in business clubs at your high school or community college.
  • Take on leadership roles in a club or community organization.
  • Research career options to learn from industry professionals. This can be done through in-person information interviews, video information interviews, or job shadows; all of which will give you an insider’s perspective on what a job/career is really like.

If you plan to apply for admission into business after you start at WSU:

If you plan to apply for admission to business directly upon entry to WSU:

Your first year will be focused on completing your UCORE & Business Admission requirements, including:

BA 100 Intro to Business
HBM 101 Professional & Career Development for the Business World
BA 102 Exploring Careers in Business
ECON 101 OR 102 Micro or Macroeconomics
MATH 201 or 202 College Algebra or Calculus 1
Carson Career Amplifier Program (Tier 1 or Crimson Pathway 1)

Remember, to be eligible to apply for admission into business, you must have at least a GPA of 2.50.

Your first year will be focused on completing remaining UCORE requirements, plus Foundational Business requirements, including:

Carson Career Amplifier Program (Crimson Pathway 1)

NOTE: Students on the Vancouver, Tri-Cities, and Global campuses will take BA 211 (3 cr) & BA 212 (3 cr) instead of BA 201-206.

Your Next Steps:

  1. Send your official transcript from all institutions where you have earned college credit to the WSU Admissions Office.
  2. Learn more about how your credits and/or degree will transfer to WSU, and check the WSU Transfer Clearinghouse to see how your classes equate to WSU courses.
  3. Register to attend Alive! Orientation to learn about WSU resources (look for the Alive! for Transfer Students).
  4. Attend Week of Welcome Carson College Kickoff to learn more about the Carson College, resources, requirements, and expectations for all new business students.
