Join the Carson College of Business Marketing & Communications team as a social media intern. Experience first-hand what it takes to be a social media professional and an important member of a dynamic team. Responsibilities begin late April 2026 in Pullman for training, as well as Fall Semester 2026 and Spring Semester 2027 in Pullman. This is a paid position with 10-19 hours per week. Duties include:
- Monitoring and managing various social media accounts for the Carson College.
- Creating online posts including visual content using Adobe Creative Cloud products and Canva
- Capturing video and photo content for online posting
- Covering college events
- Responding to online social media posts
- Tracking and analyzing data from campaigns
- Assisting in strategic planning
Skills required:
- Experience using various types of social media including: Facebook, X, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Linked In
- Excellent written and oral communication skills: Be comfortable reaching out and communicating with students and social media professionals
- Experience producing photo and video content: Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, Microsoft Office, and minimal design skills
- Must be able to sit and work at a computer and use an iPhone or other digital device for multiple hours at a time
- Ability to attend events around the Pullman campus and remotely, and provide coverage for the social media team after normal business hours

Application task:
Using the fictional information below, create a series of mock social media posts for the Carson College of Business social media channels that promote this event.
Your submission should demonstrate your ability to think strategically about event promotion, storytelling, and audience engagement.
1. Social Media Posts
Develop six total mock posts:
- Two posts before the event promoting attendance and building excitement
- Two posts during the event highlighting the competition as it happens
- Two posts after the event sharing results and celebrating the winners
Posts may be written for platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), or Facebook. Please specify the platform you are designing each post for.
2. Visual & Content Ideas
For each post, briefly describe the visual or media element that would accompany the post. This may include photo concepts, graphics or design elements, short-form videos, etc. You may include sample graphics, rough mockups, or sketches if you would like, but this is not required.
3. Creative Strategy
Briefly explain your overall approach to covering this event on social media before, during and after. We are looking for submissions that demonstrate creativity, storytelling, engaging visual content, and understanding of different social platforms.
2026 Carson College of Business Social Media Prompt
The Carson College of Business at Washington State University will host the 2026 Carson Business Plan Competition, an annual event where students present innovative business ideas to a panel of industry leaders, alumni, and faculty judges.
The event will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026 in the CUB Junior/Senior Ballroom at 5:30 p.m. and is open to all and a public event.
This event is part of the Carson College’s Center for Entrepreneurship, highlighting student creativity, problem solving, and real-world business skills.
Event Details
- Student teams will arrive at 4:45 p.m. to check in and prepare for the competition.
- At 5:30 p.m., the event will begin with opening remarks from Dean Deborah Compeau, followed by student pitch presentations. Each team will have 3 minutes to pitch their idea and 2 minutes to answer questions from judges.
- Judges will include Carson alumni, entrepreneurs, and business leaders from the Pacific Northwest.
- Audience members will have the opportunity to vote for a People’s Choice Award.
- Light refreshments will be provided for attendees.
- The hashtag for the event is #CarsonBPC.
- Local media and alumni partners have been invited to attend.

Post-Event Information
- First place: Team CougCart, a mobile app helping students buy and sell used textbooks on campus. The team won $2,000 and mentoring support from Carson alumni and entrepreneurs.
- Second place: Team SustainSip, a reusable beverage container designed for coffee shops, won $1,000.
- Third place: Team TrailTech, a mobile platform connecting outdoor enthusiasts with guided adventures in the Pacific Northwest, won $500.
- The People’s Choice Award went to CougCart.
- 78 students and community members attended the event, and 9 student teams competed.
- WSU mascot Butch T. Cougar made a surprise appearance for photos with students after the competition
