Carson Career Summer Series

June 2020

The Carson Career Summer Series will cover a wide variety of relevant topics ranging from exploring small business and understanding upward mobility in larger organizations, to resiliency through the economic impacts of COVID-19. Each virtual session will address a specific theme that serves as an opportunity to further knowledge and connect with successful business professionals.

The Carson Career Summer Series is FREE to all WSU students, alumni, faculty, and staff.

Liz Lasater brings over three decades of experience in transportation and logistics, advising many Fortune 100 companies with fast-growing, complex, and high valued supply chains in both international and domestic arenas. She founded Red Arrow in Bellevue, Washington, a company that offers tailored transportation and logistics solutions, from single shipments to multiple over-dimensional and international orders. Prior to founding Red Arrow, Lasater served in senior management for Fritz Companies that was acquired by UPS in 2001, SeaLand Logistics, APL Logistics, and supply chain providers in the technology service niche. Her areas of expertise include operations, information systems, supply chain execution, P and L management, and business development.

Patrick Murphy enjoys discovering ways to leverage information, systems, and software to find new solutions to business challenges. He has committed the bulk of his career to designing, building, and marketing technology-based business applications and hosted services that leverage leading-edge software and Web-based tools to address business problems and support product marketing opportunities. Since earning his MBA from WSU, Murphy has consistently launched and grown leading-edge technology companies, helping to raise over $100 million in capital. His current venture is Orca Analytics, LLC (LeadScorz), a recurring revenue-based cloud SaaS that uses big data and predictive AI models to accurately score the intent of sales leads for merchants who rely on high lead volumes. Bryan Saftler is an entrepreneur with an established track record of leading product marketing teams, driving digital strategy, and executing domestic and global marketing campaigns at scale. He has built and advised startups, led partnerships with leading brands including Redbull, NFL, NASA, Nike, and more, and established new products into challenging categories. Working for companies like Microsoft and Apple, Saftler won Webby, FWA, SxSW Interactive and Pixel awards, among others. He leads game development, product marketing organization, driving strategy, engineering inputs, and marketing direction for Cloud video game development services from Microsoft. He also cofounded Dialtune, an innovative, autotuning device for drum sets.

Burnham has worked extensively to enhance communications with OEMs, MROs, and suppliers across the globe to facilitate several new partnerships. She also is a key participant in Nycote’s business development, market research, sales analysis, and product development. She is an engaging speaker and often represents the company at industry events and conferences and presents the products to audiences worldwide.

Andy Buchan has 20 years’ experience as multiple roles within in the aerospace and defense industry. He began his career at MBDA Missile Systems, British Aerospace Systems, Intl. (BAE) and gained leadership positions in engineering, systems integration, and program management. He led a team of 20 engineers responsible for the systems design and integration of the Meteor missile onto the Eurofighter Typhoon, Rafale, and Gripen aircraft. He served BAE’s GE Marconi integration team as an executive weapons analyst. Most recently, he served Esterline Technologies in a range of roles in business development and strategy. Currently, he is a member of several aerospace affiliations and serves on many advisory boards in his industry.

Brooke Bachesta brings six years of experience working in startups specifically within SDR shops, with a focus on scaling teams and taking companies upmarket. She leads the mid-market SDR team at Outreach.io and manages ongoing training and recruiting efforts within Outreach’s SDR organization. She has a passion for engaging with the next generation of sales leaders and works closely with the recruiting team to drive Outreach’s campus recruiting program. She is  co-chair of Outreach’s women in sales initiative, Gals & SALs, and an advisor to the Outreach’s women’s network and inclusion and diversity committee.

Amy Sweetwood is a versatile leader experienced in education, healthcare, public speaking, and team building. She received her master’s degree in organizational leadership with an emphasis on servant leadership from Gonzaga University in 2010. She earned her bachelor’s degree in sports science from the University of Idaho and is certified through the American College of Sports Medicine as a clinical exercise specialist. She worked at Kadlec Regional Medical Center from 2000-2018, as the director of education and later as the director of graduate medical education, where she was instrumental in developing the family medicine residency program. She is currently consulting for a variety of companies and, most recently, assisting with developing a residency program. Sweetwood’s previous volunteer efforts include working with Washington state legislative committees; community member, University of Washington School of Medicine’s Family Medicine Educational Advisory Board; contributor, Pacific Northwest National Laboratories STEM-Collaborative; board member, MESA-WSU; and member, WSU/Tri-Cities Carson College National Board of Advisors. She is a Desert Storm veteran and served with the Army Reserves from 1988-1996.

Braedan Binkiewicz is a member of the Carson College’s Human Resources/Management Advisory Board. Since graduating with a degree in business economics, he has worked for three Fortune 500 companies and currently works for USI Insurance Services, the third largest insurance brokerage in the nation. He oversees business in four states (WA, ID, OR, AK) and makes time to connect with his alma mater and with current WSU students.

Nate Higgins, Self Employed, Investor Relations, and Institutional Sales; Carson College of Business Advisory Board Member

Shortly after graduating from high school, Nate Higgins sustained an industrial accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down with a traumatic brain injury. Post-accident, he attended Gonzaga University, winning multiple titles as a competitive swimmer.  Following graduation in 2009, he went to work for CH2M Hill in labor relations. In 2012, Higgins moved into finance, working for a small value investing hedge fund in the Seattle area. In 2013, he attended USC Marshall on a full-ride scholarship courtesy of Swim With Mike, where he interned for the quantitative hedge fund Los Angeles Capital Management as a member of their portfolio management team and the private banking and investment group at Bank of America. In his second year of business school, he worked full-time on the commercial paper trading desk at Toyota Financial Services while continuing as a full-time student. While a member of the trading desk, he was directly responsible for the settlement of over $10 billion in transactions. He is currently a self-employed real estate investor in Washington state’s Tri-Cities area. He serves on the boards of multiple nonprofits as well as on the Economic Development Committee for the city of Richland. He continues to train for the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games taking place in Beijing, China.

Mitch Gilbert, Strategic Advisor; Co-Founder, W3 Entertainment Group; Founder/ CVO, EatyGourmet Hospitality Group; Carson College of Business Advisory Board Member

Mitch Gilbert brings over two decades of experience in entrepreneurial endeavors, including business development and strategic partnerships, having supported several companies in navigating marketing agreements, product implementation, and platform distribution. He also has over a decade of experience in restaurant ownership and management as the founder of Grinders Hot Sands restaurant in Seattle. He cofounded the W3 Entertainment Group and was the founder/ VCO of EatyGourmet Hospitality Group. He also serves on the  Carson College Tri-Cities Advisory Board.

Fisher has in-depth knowledge of eCommerce, digital advertising, and portfolio management. He has a proven track record of growing business through multi marketing channels for SMB’s and Fortune 500 companies. Fischer has a strong background in developing and executing profit-driven marketing strategies, engaging with senior stakeholders, and helping clients gain a better understanding of SEO and SEM profitability metrics and building professional relationships with clients.

Amanda Hulbert is an experienced business analysis manager who works on business case development and analysis for operations projects and testing of up to $150 million of impact. Her work entails submitting forecasts for projects in our retail business and market-specific portfolio analysis at Starbucks. Previously, she worked as an intern and financial analyst at Boeing and was president of Chi Omega while at WSU.
