Study Abroad:
Austria/Slovenia
One trip of a lifetime, two universities, three European capitals (Vienna, Ljubljana, Bratislava), four weeks, five countries, and six credits.
This faculty-led study abroad experience combines classroom lectures with day and road trips under the direction of Florian Zach, clinical professor of hospitality, WSU Vancouver. You will study with Dr. Zach and take courses from Dr. Dejan Krizaj, an expert on innovation and entrepreneurship at the University of Primorska in Slovenia. You will spend the first two and a half weeks in Portorož, Slovenia at the Adriatic Sea, studying with students from the University of Primorska. After class, you can enjoy Slovenia’s beautiful beaches.
Day Trips
From Portorož, you will take day trips in the area to picturesque Piran (within walking distance from campus) and Koper. On our day trip Venice, Italy (2h by bus) you will see magnificent museums. On your day trip into the Soca Valley, you will explore the small town, talk to entrepreneurs, and visit the battlefields of WWI. A day trip to Pula in neighboring Croatia (1.5h by bus) is optional.
Road Trips
You will spend the last weekend in Slovenia in Ljubljana, the capital city, followed by business meetings on Monday. On the way to Lubjlana, you will stop at the Postojna Cave, Slovenia’s #1 tourist attraction; it’s an amazing experience! On Tuesday, you will take a road trip through rural Slovenia to Vienna, Austria, where you will stay for the remainder of the trip. In Vienna, you will meet local students and do a last day trip to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia (1h from Vienna by bus).

During these four busy weeks, you will experience many European countries, cities, and landscapes. You will also sample European cuisine, which is not very vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free. Say yes and go!
