justin.hopeThis month, the Carson College of Business marks a significant milestone: Students who were freshmen when we launched The Next Carson Coug curriculum are beginning their senior year. While we continue to focus on the academics that produce graduates with strong core competencies, students also start taking part in career development activities as freshmen, opening doors to better job placement after graduation.

Alumna Michelle Kelly was one of six women recognized at WSU’s Women of Distinction ceremony for contributing to the personal and professional success of women.

Seven students from King Danylo University in Ukraine took Professor Dipra Jha’s international tourism class through a partnership with the Carson College of Business last spring.

Keri Rhodes leads a four-member team in the marketing department at Spiceology, whose products are carried by retailers ranging from Williams Sonoma to Ace Hardware. The Spokane company sells 400 different spices and blends.

Sean Russell, 32, will graduate from WSU Vancouver in December with a business administration degree. He returned to school after working in the maritime industry. “I had a bit of a history with WSU, so it feels like a redemption arc,” he says. “WSU was where I started as an 18-year-old and dropped out after one semester.”

Since 2015, more than 3,300 online students have received undergraduate business degrees, MBAs, or Executive MBAs through our college. I’m proud of our students’ academic achievements and excited about the professional opportunities they have realized through investing in their education.

The financial coaching program aims to sharpen Cougs’ money management skills. The peer coaches focus on topics relevant to WSU students, like making a budget, establishing credit, planning for major purchases after graduation, and understanding retirement savings options.
