Complaints & Concerns
First, try to solve it directly with them. Remember, communication and conflict resolution are essential business skills. If they don’t respond in 10 business days, send a follow-up email and CC the department chair for the professor’s academic department or Stacey Smith-Colon for academic advising.
The Compliance and Civil Rights Office processes both informal reports and formal complaints. CCR will connect you to resources and process options for all concerns about discrimination, discriminatory harassment, sexual harassment, or sex and gender based violence –including sexual assault, nonconsensual sexual contact, sexual exploitation, dating violence, domestic violence, or stalking. A report lets CCR know about conduct and helps CCR get people connected with supportive resources. A formal complaint is a request for formal grievance processes as well as supportive resources.
In general, you can expect to wait 3-5 business days for advisors to reply to your email. Advisors are busy around the beginning of the semester and when registration opens (in November & April). Try drop-in advising for quicker help. If your advisor is out, email cb.advisors@wsu.edu for help.
Grades
Final grades are posted in myWSU, not Canvas. Remember that your final grade may include other factors not calculated in Canvas. Check your course syllabus to understand how grades are calculated. If you believe there was an error, contact your professor ASAP. Keep in mind that professors are usually not available over the summer.
You can choose pass/fail for classes that aren’t satisfying a specific degree requirement. For example, if you are taking ART 110 for fun (not to meet your [ARTS] requirement), you may take it pass/fail. You must get permission from your advisor to take a class as pass/fail.
Talk to your professor during office hours. Review the syllabus for any late or extra credit opportunities and consider tutoring. Talk to your advisor about your options, resources, and/or dropping the class.
Financial Questions
Apply for emergency funds for things like food, housing, and supplies. This funding is intended for unexpected needs that are not already accounted for.
When you apply to the WSU General Application and indicate that you’re a business student, the CCB Scholarship team will receive your application for potential selection of business specific scholarships. The Carson College also has additional scholarships you may be eligible for.
Requesting Letters
Send your request at least two weeks in advance. It is helpful to also include when you need the letter by, details about what you need the recommendation for, and more information about your accomplishments and goals. Remember, the answer may be no if they don’t have time or cannot provide you with a good recommendation.
If your sponsor requires an enrollment verification, you can submit a request form online here. For other letters required by your sponsor, such as tutoring requests, please reach out to your advisor directly. You will need to provide a minimum of two weeks notice.
Request verification through the Registrar’s office:
Unless a technical error has been made, decisions regarding admission and release from the college are final. However, students may apply for admission or readmission during a future term when they have met eligibility requirements. You should schedule a meeting with your academic advisor to discuss how you can get admitted or readmitted to the college at a later date.
Classes & Scheduling
Students who do not attend a class during the first week of the semester may be dropped from that class to make room for students on the waitlist. After the first week of class, refer to the course syllabi regarding individual professors’ attendance policies. If you need to miss a class, you should reach out to your professor in advance.
If you are experiencing an emergency that may have a long-term impact on your attendance, work with the Dean of Students office.
You can swap classes within the first seven days of the semester via myWSU as long as the class you’re joining has space. After the first week, you’ll need permission from the instructor and department.
How to Swap Classes
During Fall and Spring, you can only enroll in courses offered on your home campus. If a Pullman campus course is scheduled to be online, you may be able to enroll. Keep in mind some online courses may require department consent. Reach out to your academic advisor if you have questions.
In the summer, you can take classes from any WSU campus or Global.
You can drop or withdraw from a course in myWSU under Manage Classes and Drop Classes. It is considered a dropped class (without record) any time before the drop deadline. After the drop deadline and up until the withdrawal deadline, removing yourself from a class is considered a withdrawal and will result in a W on your transcript.
Classes are not available on Canvas until published by the instructor. Oftentimes classes are not published until the start of classes. If you are more than 1 week into the semester and still cannot view your class, please notify your instructor.
If you recently added, dropped, or swapped a class, it typically takes 24 hours to update and reflect your current classes. If you believe you should have access and still, you should submit a Crimson Service Desk request for assistance.
MyWSU will only show your schedule for the current week. Check the start date of your classes. It is possible that some begin later in the semester. You can update the date range in myWSU to view your schedule at a future point in the semester.
If you are taking an online course, it will not appear as a block on your schedule since it is not at a specific time. Any online classes will be listed underneath the schedule calendar.
You can only retake classes if you earned a C- or lower. If you want to retake a class for the third time, you need permission from the department.
If you have 3 or more finals on one day, any one of your professors can excuse you from the regular examination time and give the final exam to you during the “special exams time block” at the end of Finals Week. Work with your professors to see if one of them is willing to move your exam date. If you are unable to find a solution, you should reach out to the Department Chair who oversees the exam subject you are trying to move.
These abbreviations usually mean the class is offered online with no set meeting day/time or location.
Withdrawing from the term means dropping all of your classes. You can withdraw from the term in myWSU by selecting the “Manage Classes” tile and then “Withdraw from Current Term” from the menu on the left.
Partial refunds are available depending on how long you attended. Refund Info
If you need to withdraw after the term has ended, you will need to submit an Academic Calendar Petition.
Request an official transcript from your previous institution and follow the instructions found here.
Math prerequisites are waived for business minors. You can request to be enrolled by emailing cb.advisors@wsu.edu.
Start by completing Global Cougs 101 and meeting with a Global Learning Advisor. Once you have an idea of the location and program to which you might apply, meet with your academic advisor to plan your classes.
For more information, you can also reach out to Carson College of Business Study Abroad office.
Changing Majors, Advisors, or Campuses
If you are not currently a business major and want to change to a business major, you can schedule a meeting with an advisor here.
The advisor will help adjust your major, assign you to a new advisor, and suggest classes for your new major.
If you are currently a business major and want to change majors to something outside of business, contact the department you are looking to swap into to request an appointment. Contact your business advisor if you need help finding the correct contact information.
If you are changing between business majors, from Finance to Accounting for example, contact your assigned business advisor and they can adjust your major.
A student can make a formal request to Stacey Smith-Colon, Assistant Director for Retention & Student Success, at stacey.smith-colon@wsu.edu.
Meet with your academic advisor to discuss this process ahead of time. Once you’re certain this change will work with your degree plan, submit a Change of Campus form at least two weeks before the beginning of the term.
Meet with your academic advisor to discuss this process ahead of time. Once you’re certain this change will work with your degree plan, submit an Intercampus Enrollment Request form at least two weeks before the beginning of the term.
No formal notice is needed, but let your advisor know. Don’t enroll at WSU for the upcoming semester if transferring. Request your official transcript to be sent to your new university and direct your questions to the admissions team at your new university.
All students who have been admitted to their major and earned 90 or more credits automatically receive this task in myWSU. You are not expected to apply to graduate until the term you intend to do so.
