Minors

Undergraduate minors are additional areas of study outside the student’s major. Minors typically require 18 additional credits.

To be eligible for these business minors, students must:

  • Be admitted to their primary major or have completed 27 credits
  • Be pursuing a major that is eligible to receive your desired minor (see details in each minor)
  • Have a WSU cumulative GPA of at least 2.50 and not on academic probation

Additional Requirements for all Business Minors:

  • At least 9 credits of Upper-Division coursework must be taken at WSU.
  • A maximum of 6 credits may be transferred in from another institution.
  • Must maintain and overall GPA of at least 2.50 in all minor courses.

Who is Eligible: Available to all WSU students except those Majoring in Aging Business Management.

Requirements: Complete 19 credits of the following:

  • ACCTG 220 Intro Accounting for Non-Business Majors (3 cr.) or ACCTG 230 Intro to Financial Accounting (3 cr.)
  • HBM 101 Professional & Career Development (1 cr.) or HBM 401 Career Management (1 cr.)
  • HBM 270 Exploring the Business of Aging (3 cr.)
  • HBM 470 Senior Living Management Operations Analysis (3 cr.)
  • HBM 494 Service Operations Management (3 cr.)
  • 3 credits from the following:
    • H_D 308 Adult Development
    • H_D 350 Family Diversity
    • H_D 360 Death & Dying
    • H_D 309 Gerontology
    • Psych 363 Psychology of Aging
  • 3 credit CCB course (Recommended: HBM 280 Hospitality Systems, MKTG 360 Intro to Marketing, or MGMT 450 Personnel & Human Resource Management)
  • 400 hours of internship/industry experience

Who is Eligible: Available to all WSU students who are not pursuing a Carson College major or minor.

  • B_A 100 Intro to Business (3 cr.)
  • ACCTG 220 Intro Accounting for Non-Business Majors ( 3 cr.) or ACCTG 230 Intro to Financial Accounting (3 cr.)
  • MGMT 301 Principles of Management & Organizations (3 cr.) or HBM 381 Hospitality Leadership & Organizational Behavior (3 cr.)
  • 6 cr. Upper-Division CCB courses (excluding 498 and 499 courses)
  • 3 cr. CCB elective at any level

Who is Eligible: Available to all WSU students, except those earning a degree in Business Administration.

Requirements: Complete 18 credits of the following:

  • One Management course chosen from:

The Carson College of Business offers 5 certificates.

Working in the high-demand industry of Senior Living or Aging Business offers tremendous growth opportunities and lucrative salaries. This certificate, added to your current major, will make you more a more competitive applicant for careers in this industry.

Who is Eligible: Non-Hospitality Business Management majors.

Requirements: Complete 15 credits from the following with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

To complete this certificate, students must complete 15 credits with a 2.50 GPA or better.
