WSU Regent, alumnus, and Carson College of Business namesake Scott Carson and his wife Linda provided a dollar-for-dollar match of the college&#8217;s efforts to raise $250,000, and when the event attendees surpassed that goal, the Carsons generously increased their match to support the initiative. The reception style event included hors d\u2019oeuvres, a hosted bar, live auction and a raise-the-paddle program at Melrose Market Studios, in Seattle. It will give our students the same tools used in industry to track and analyze what\u2019s going on in financial markets,\u201d says Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/business.wsu.edu\/directory\/whidbee\/\">David Whidbee<\/a>, chair of the Department of Finance and Management Sciences. Nine terminals are fixed, and three are installed on portable machines that faculty can use in class. Throughout the evening, an alumnus and three students worked with <a href=\"https:\/\/business.wsu.edu\/directory\/rharrington\/\">Robert Harrington<\/a>, WSU Tri-Cities academic director of the Carson College; <a href=\"https:\/\/business.wsu.edu\/directory\/rhonda.hammond\/\">Rhonda Hammond<\/a>, assistant professor of hospitality business management; and <strong>Byron Marlowe<\/strong>, assistant clinical professor and wine and beverage business management program coordinator, to help plan the event, prepare, and pair the meals with Terra Blanca wines, in addition to serving them. Phyllis Hoops provided opportunities for 11 accounting students to take two separate tours of accounting and industry firms. Five students traveled to Spokane to visit Eide Bailly, CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA), BDO, and Moss Adams. Primary hosts were Jonathan Miller (\u201912 Acct., \u201913 MAc.) at Eide Bailly, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/davidenquist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David Enquist<\/a> (\u201908 Acct.) at CLA, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/jon-heideman-cpa-a901652a\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jon Heideman<\/a> (\u201908 Acct.) at BDO, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/mikethronsoncpa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mike Thronson<\/a> (\u201992 Acct.) at Moss Adams. Each firm presented information on firm culture, the types of clients they serve, and career paths available to students. The students were also provided with office tours. The students were accompanied by <strong>Marla Meyer<\/strong>, the college\u2019s Moss Adams accounting career advisor. Additionally, six students traveled to Seattle with Meyer and Clinical Assistant Professor <strong>Brandon Holbrook<\/strong>, who also serves as the <a href=\"https:\/\/business.wsu.edu\/carson-center-for-student-success\/organizations-clubs\/beta-alpha-psi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Beta Alpha Psi<\/a> advisor. The students attended the Carson College Power Breakfast panel discussion and networked with representatives and event sponsors, many of which were accounting firms. Following the breakfast the students met with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/devin-ossman-cpa-a834b798\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Devin Ossman<\/a> (\u201914 Acct.) to learn about Starbucks and opportunities for accounting majors in industry. Accounting firms Peterson Sullivan, PwC, Moss Adams, and Deloitte all provided firm tours and the opportunity for students to meet firm employees and learn more about each accounting firm.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"PopRowContainer StudentRow SingleRow GrayRow\">\n<p>Following the <a href=\"https:\/\/business.wsu.edu\/news-events\/events\/business-technology-symposium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Business Technology Symposium<\/a>, management information systems students competed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/business.wsu.edu\/news-events\/events\/business-technology-symposium\/biz-tech-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biz Tech Competition<\/a> (BiTC) to showcase their projects. MIS students learn by doing hands-on projects to develop technology solutions to business challenges. To further cultivate such a learning environment, the MISE department organized the competition to further challenge students to expand their technology skills through active participation and experimentation. Posters were judged by the <a href=\"https:\/\/business.wsu.edu\/news-events\/events\/business-technology-symposium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Business Technology Symposium<\/a> speakers, tech professionals, faculty and staff. The competition was sponsored by the Sampson Frank S. Endowment. The Academy is an educational consultant company providing alternative education options for students of all ages. The team\u2019s project was to internationalize the academy, focusing on the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) aspects of the curriculum. Nelson&#8217;s students developed a proposal for the academy to expand its STEM education efforts into Shanghai, China, where STEM is gaining momentum. The team recommended the academy establish licensed copyrights of its courses and teaching approaches to share with Chinese schools. Other recommendations included the academy becoming a licensed partner with a well-established company already operating in China, hiring expatriate staff in the first year of the implementation, and adopting ethical standards reflective of both countries. After the close of the spring 2018 semester, student team leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/jared-chok-221016164\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jared Chok<\/a>, marketing manager with North American Education (NAE) Shanghai, began working with 95th Ave to develop a partnership to implement STEM curricula in three NAE training centers\u2019 curricula in Shanghai.
