Undergraduate No Record, COVID (NRC) Grade Guidance

for Carson College of Business Students Fall 2020 & Spring 2021

For the Fall 2020 & Spring 2021 semesters only, Washington State University has approved the NRC (No Record, COVID) grade option for undergraduate students. Using the NRC grade option, students may elect to change W, C-, D+, D, or F grades to an NRC grade for Fall 2020 and Spring 2021.

Students may request to change a W or letter grade of C- or below beginning on December 23, 2020 until January 6, 2021. The NRC Grade Request Form as well as additional information and FAQs regarding the NRC grade option may be found on the Registrar’s NRC Grading webpage.

For Carson College of Business students on all WSU Campuses

Many University offices, including advising offices, are closed from December 24, 2020 through January 3, 2021 for the WSU Winter Closure. ASCC advisors will be available for all WSU students during the closure beginning Monday, December 28, 2020 through Thursday, December 31, 2020. Instructions for connecting with an ASCC advisor can be found here.

You may contact your academic advisor via email, but your academic advisor may not respond until January 4, 2021. You can find your academic advisor’s contact information listed under “Advisors” in your myWSU “Academic Advising” tile.

Q.
Do I need course instructor or advisor approval to change to an NRC grade?

A.
No. You do not need approval from your instructor or advisor. However, you are strongly encouraged to discuss this decision with your academic advisor.

Q.
What does changing to an NRC grade mean for Business majors and minors?

A.
You will not earn credit for completion of any business requirements when changing your W or letter grade of C- or below to an NRC grade. Changing to an NRC grade may impact you in the following ways:

  • Unmet Prerequisites: An NRC grade for any class that is a prerequisite disqualifies you for enrollment in the corresponding course in the following term. This will result in you being dropped from the corresponding course. You can check the prerequisites for your classes using the WSU Catalog

  • Unmet Requirements for Admission or Graduation: Changing a letter grade of C- or below to an NRC grade may make you ineligible for admission or graduation. You can check to make sure changing to an NRC grade won’t render you ineligible for admission or graduation by reviewing your academic requirements. Q.
Should I retake a course for which I changed my letter grade of C- or below to the NRC grade?

A.
Students changing to an NRC grade for any course may consider retaking the course in the next semester to avoid further delays in their time to graduation.

Can I change my mind after I opt-in for the NRC grade?

A.
Yes. You can reverse your decision until January 6, 2020 using the Letter Grade Change form found here.

  • Pullman:
    You may contact your academic advisor via email, but should not expect a response during the WSU Winter Closure between December 24th, 2020 and January 3rd, 2021. Academic advisors will respond to emails beginning on January 4th in the order in which they were received. You can find your academic advisor’s contact information listed under “Advisors” in your myWSU “Academic Advising” tile.
