From daily news, interviews, storytelling, comedy, and fact-of-the day podcasts, it\u2019s safe to assume that if you\u2019ve thought of it, there\u2019s a podcast for it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">As a student, navigating through your classes and extracurriculars can leave very little down time to pick up a book and enhance your education. As classes move online for the rest of the semester, this downtime will add up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">This is where podcasts come in. Plugging in while you walk to campus, grab lunch, or simply ponder outside of the CUB can create educational value in your day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Here are some of my favorite business-related podcasts, where you can listen to them, and why you should check them out:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>How I Built This<\/em>:<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-254 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.wp.wsu.edu\/uploads\/sites\/2515\/2020\/04\/how-i-built-this.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"241\" height=\"241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-business\/uploads\/sites\/2515\/2020\/04\/how-i-built-this.png 241w, https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-business\/uploads\/sites\/2515\/2020\/04\/how-i-built-this-198x198.png 198w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 241px) 100vw, 241px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u201c<em>How I\u00a0Built This<\/em>, with Guy Raz, dives into the stories behind some of the world&#8217;s best-known companies. \u201cHow I\u00a0Built This\u201d weaves a narrative journey about innovators, entrepreneurs and idealists\u2014and the movements they\u00a0built.\u201d\u00b9<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">I am an avid NPR listener. I especially enjoy listening to <em>Tiny Desk Concerts<\/em> and the <em>Up First<\/em> (daily news) podcast. I stumbled across <em>How I Built This<\/em> in 2018 when I listened to an episode on Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and the journey to becoming one of the top names in cosmetics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">This series gives listeners a perspective of the process innovators and entrepreneurs face when turning an idea into a company or creation. Most episodes are between 40-60 minutes. Hosted by Kate Linebaugh and Ryan Knutson. <em>The Journal<\/em> is a co-production from Gimlet Media and <em>The Wall Street Journal<\/em><em>.\u201d \u00b2<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">I enjoy listening to <em>The Journal<\/em> because it features quick business stories explained 20 minutes or less. While the stories are business-focused, they typically incorporate what\u2019s hot in the news. For example, I just listened to the episode titled <em>Why There\u2019s No Toilet Paper: Answers to Your Coronavirus Questions.<\/em> This addresses listeners&#8217; questions regarding the coronavirus pandemic. Host Nick Looper does a great job of explaining complex business ideas and strategies that are easy to understand as a student. I also enjoy tuning in because the length of the episodes changes from 30 minutes up to an hour. You can listen to whatever you have time for, and there are over 360 episodes! The topics vary from running online blogs and businesses, becoming a freelancer, investing tips, and saving money.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">Here are a few episodes I learned from:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>325: The Million Dollar Hobby: How to Monetize What You\u2019re Already Interested in<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>293: Local Podcasts: How to Become the Voice of Your Community\u2014and Get Paid<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>290: Willpower 101: 8 Ways to Strengthen This Critical Success Muscle<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">You can listen to <em>The Side Hustle Show<\/em> on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Podcasts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><em><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">BBC: Business Daily:<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/p002vsxs\/episodes\/downloads\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-255 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.wp.wsu.edu\/uploads\/sites\/2515\/2020\/04\/business-daily.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"243\" height=\"243\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-business\/uploads\/sites\/2515\/2020\/04\/business-daily.png 243w, https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-business\/uploads\/sites\/2515\/2020\/04\/business-daily-198x198.png 198w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 243px) 100vw, 243px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u201cThe daily drama of money and work from the BBC.\u201d\u00a0<sup>4<\/sup><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">BBC\u2019s <em>Business Daily<\/em> deep dives into the most important current events. Lately, episodes have been surrounding COVID-19 but they provide a twist that you won\u2019t hear on the news. Regarding the pandemic, they discuss the global impacts specifically in the poorest areas of the world, what we can learn from East Asia\u2019s response, and how the private sector can help struggling hospitals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">When there isn\u2019t a global pandemic, you can expect typical podcast episodes to focus on topics such as crypto-currency, facial recognition software, and the global tech industry.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">Here are a few episodes that I found insightful:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>OK Boomer\u2026<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>Insomnia and the Smartphone<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>The Products Use<\/em><em>d Again and Again and Again\u2026<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">You can listen to the BBC: Business Daily podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, Stitcher, and Google Podcasts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">There are hundreds of business-focused podcasts waiting for you to listen to them. If you haven\u2019t listened to podcasts before, I hope this inspires you to test the waters and find the right one for you. Daily news podcasts are a great place to start as a lot of the business podcasts are tied into current events. Some other advice: don\u2019t just listen to business podcasts. Escape the gloom and doom during this time by picking up a comedy podcast in addition to a business one.
